FAQs

SPECS, AESTHETICS & COMFORT
What sizes and spans are available?
Umbrellas range in size from 2m to 5m across, in either square or octagonal shapes. Depending on the model, they can provide shade coverage from 4m² to 25m².
Are outdoor umbrellas waterproof?
Most Shade7 umbrellas use marine-grade acrylic canvas, which is showerproof and provides excellent UV protection. For a fully waterproof option, some models are available with PVC fabric.
+ MORE
What materials are used?
- Marine-grade anodised aluminium frames
- Marine-grade solution-dyed acrylic canvas, with high UV protection
- PVC fabric is also available on certain models for complete waterproofing
Frames are durable and rust-resistant. Shade7 is increasingly replacing plastic components with aluminium on new model releases to extend lifespan and reduce waste.
What does the space feel like under an umbrella?
Shade7 umbrellas create a shaded, cool outdoor area while maintaining a natural, open-air feel. Cantilever models can be rotated or tilted to follow the sun, keeping your space usable at any time of day.
How many umbrellas do you have in your showroom?
We have four Shade7 umbrellas on display in our Hastings showroom, ranging from the lightweight, portable Venice to the robust Riviera and the heavy-duty Tempest. Our team has a wealth of product knowledge and would be delighted to guide you through the options, helping you see and try the umbrellas in person before making a decision.
How much does an outdoor umbrella cost?
Shade7 publishes retail pricing on their website, which you can view for guidance. However, we’d encourage you to come back to Douglas to make your purchase. By buying locally, you not only support a Hawke’s Bay business, but you also benefit from our showroom, expertise and service.
For larger umbrellas, our local installation service takes the hassle away and ensures a professional, high-quality result that will last.

PROCESS & INSTALLATION
How long does installation take?
Smaller umbrellas can be delivered within days and are simple to set up. Larger cantilever and commercial umbrellas can be bolted to decks or concrete and installed by our Douglas team in a single day.
Can you work to tight deadlines?
Yes. If you have an event or specific timeframe, let us know and we’ll do our best to meet it.
+ MORE
Do you charge for consultations or quotes?
Initial consultations are free of charge for umbrellas, and typically for other systems as well where the project is straightforward.
Who installs your umbrellas?
The smaller umbrella models like the Venice do not require professional installation, so you can set it up easily yourself.
With the larger models, we recommend our Douglas team installs your umbrella to ensure it is secure, safe, and correctly set up (this is optional, but recommended). We’ll let you know in advance who is coming to site, and you can meet the team on our website.
Can you reskin or repair my umbrella?
Yes. If the frame is still in good shape, we can reskin your umbrella with new fabric to give it a fresh look and extend its life.

FURTHER INFO
What warranties are included?
Douglas provides a 2-year workmanship warranty on installations. Shade7 umbrellas come with manufacturer warranties that vary by model (canvas and frames). Refer to the individual product brochures for specific warranty information.
What are the environmental credentials?
Shade7 outdoor umbrellas are designed to last, which reduces replacement and waste. Frames are made from recyclable aluminium, and Shade7 are increasingly swapping plastic components for more durable aluminium with new model releases.
Fabrics are durable and UV-stable, though as it stands, any outdoor fabrics used in roof systems, shades, or awnings are not currently recyclable in New Zealand at end-of-life (this applies to our products and anyone else’s).
Our suppliers are known to be working on end-of-life solutions, and many of our fabrics (like Sunbrella, used in all Shade7’s except PVC skins) are manufactured under stringent EU environmental and health regulations, covering the full product life cycle. If you’d like details for the specific fabric you’re considering, we can help you check the supplier’s information.
View Sunbrella fabrics’ Sustainability Statement & Credentials, which includes GREENGUARD Gold Certification for healthy indoor air quality, and ISO 14001 for Environmental Management.
Where our products add value is also in the longevity of the product – with Douglas you are buying a long-term, durable solution.
We can also reskin your existing umbrella if the frame is still in good shape, extending its life even further.

Have you won awards for outdoor living projects?
