FAQs

SPECS, AESTHETICS & COMFORT
What sizes and spans are possible?
Fixed-frame awnings can be designed in almost any size to suit your needs. Whether you require a compact window canopy or a large structure to cover a deck, pergola, or shopfront, our team can engineer the right solution.
Can you reskin or repair my fixed frame awning?
Yes. If your existing frame is structurally sound, we can replace the fabric skin with new material, or repair damaged sections. This extends the lifespan of your awning and gives it a refreshed look.
+ MORE
Are fixed frame awnings waterproof?
Yes. Fixed-frame awnings are 100% waterproof when skinned in PVC, and highly weatherproof when skinned in acrylic canvas. They’re designed to provide lasting shelter from rain and UV exposure.
What colours are available?
You can choose from a wide range of Dulux Duralloy powder coat colours for the aluminium frame, plus a broad selection of fabrics in both solid colours and patterns. Two-tone combinations are also available to integrate with your home or business décor.
What fabrics are available for fixed frame awnings?
- Fabrics are rot- and fade-resistant, air permeable, water repellent, and offer high UV protection.
- Choose from a wide range of colours and patterns to fit your style.
- Options include translucent PVC to allow light through or solid PVC for complete shade.
Visit our Hastings showroom to see and feel the fabric swatches and discuss what will best suit your needs.
What does the space feel like under a fixed frame awning?
Fixed-frame awnings create a comfortable, sheltered space that protects against the elements while still feeling open. With translucent fabric options, natural light filters through, helping to brighten the area underneath while shading from the harsh Hawke’s Bay sun.
How much does a fixed frame awning cost?
Every awning is custom-made to your building or home, so costs will vary depending on the size, style, and structure. For a ballpark figure or to discuss options, please contact our team or visit our Hastings showroom.
How long will a fixed frame awning last?
With proper care, fixed frame awnings typically last well over a decade. The aluminium frames are extremely durable, and fabric can be replaced over time to refresh the look without rebuilding the structure.
How do I clean and care for a fixed frame awning?
- Brush away loose dirt with a soft broom.
- Hose down regularly to prevent build-up.
- Use mild detergent and a soft brush for more stubborn marks.
- Rinse thoroughly and let dry.
We’ll provide care and user guides at installation.

FURTHER INFO
What warranties are included?
Douglas provides a 2-year workmanship warranty on installations. Fixed frame awnings also include a 10-year limited liability product warranty on the frame, with up to 10 years on fabrics depending on supplier. Care and warranty documentation is provided at installation.
What are the environmental credentials?
Fixed frame awnings are designed for longevity, reducing the need for frequent replacement. Frames are constructed from recyclable aluminium, powder-coated to last.
As it stands, any outdoor fabrics used in roof systems, shades, or awnings are not currently recyclable in New Zealand at end-of-life (this applies to our products and anyone else’s). Our suppliers are known to be working on end-of-life solutions, and many of our fabrics are manufactured under stringent EU environmental and health regulations, covering the full product life cycle. If you’d like details for the specific fabric you’re considering, we can help you check the supplier’s information.
Some of our typical suppliers include:
View Sunbrella fabrics’ Sustainability Statement & Credentials, which includes GREENGUARD Gold Certification for healthy indoor air quality, and ISO 14001 for Environmental Management.
Mehler PVC, which includes their Eco-Care commitment for product life-cycle, REACH compliance and phthalate-free products.
Recasens Recacril, including REACH compliance and phthalate-free products.
Where our products really add value is in the longevity of the product – with Douglas you are buying a long-term, durable solution.

Where are fixed frame awnings made?
These awnings are a proprietary Douglas product, designed and fabricated right here in Hawke’s Bay. We work closely with local trade partners for frame fabrication and provide full installation and support.
Have you won awards for outdoor living projects?
Yes. Douglas is a multi-award-winning Hawke’s Bay company, recognised nationally and internationally for excellence in outdoor living projects including awnings and roof systems.
