How long will Ziptrak® blinds last?
What fabrics are available for Ziptrak® blinds?
Ziptrak® blinds can be made with:
- Clear PVC – gives full visibility and wind protection, ideal for enclosing an outdoor room.
- Mesh PVC fabrics – provide UV protection and airflow while maintaining outward visibility and privacy.

What’s the difference between mesh and clear PVC blinds?
- Mesh PVC fabrics: Block UV rays, reduce glare and heat, allow airflow, and provide daytime privacy.
- Clear PVC: Offers unobstructed views and full wind/rain protection but no airflow.
Tip: Clear PVC is great for winter comfort, while mesh PVC is better in summer when you want both shade and ventilation.
What’s the difference between Ziptrak® and manual blinds?
The Ziptrak® patented track-guided system locks the blind into side tracks, stopping it from rattling or flapping in the wind. Unlike manual roll-up blinds that need zips or cords, Ziptrak® blinds glide smoothly up or down and can stop at any height. They are spring-balanced, so operation is quick and simple without cranks.
Are Ziptrak® blinds windproof?
Ziptrak® blinds are designed to perform well in windy conditions, with the track-guided system preventing flapping and rattling. However, in strong or extreme weather, the blinds must be raised. Leaving them down in high winds can cause damage and may void your warranty.
Can Ziptrak® blinds be customised to my space?
Yes. Every installation is measured to the millimetre for your space, whether it’s a deck, pergola, or café frontage. Frames can be powder-coated in any Dulux colour to match your décor, and blinds are fabricated to fit seamlessly with your existing structure.
How much do Ziptrak® blinds cost?
Every project is custom, so pricing depends on the size of your space, chosen fabric, and installation requirements. We don’t list prices online, but if you share a photo and some basic measurements or contact our Hastings showroom, we can give you a ballpark figure. For an accurate quote, our team will visit your site in Napier, Hastings, or CHB to measure and discuss options.
Where are Ziptrak® blinds made?
Ziptrak® components are manufactured in Australia. Your blinds are then custom-fabricated here in Hastings by our sister company, Rainbow Shade NZ, and installed by the Douglas team.
PROCESS & INSTALLATION
Do you install Ziptrak® blinds yourselves?
Yes. Installation is carried out by our own trained Douglas team, not contractors. When you book, we’ll let you know exactly who to expect at your site. Our installers are well-known across Hawke’s Bay for their friendly, professional service.
Do you charge for consultations or quotes?
Initial discussions are typically free of charge. If your project requires detailed design work or complex assessments, we’ll let you know upfront if any fees apply – no surprises.

What warranty comes with Ziptrak® blinds?
Ziptrak® blinds are backed by manufacturer warranties on fabrics and components, plus Douglas’ own workmanship guarantee.
- Fabrics: UV, fade, and weather-resistance warranties (depending on fabric chosen).
- Frames and powdercoating: Covered under supplier warranties.
- Douglas installation and workmanship: Guaranteed locally.
Important: To keep your warranty valid, blinds must be used and cared for as recommended – for example, raising them in strong winds. We’ll provide care and user guides at installation, and you can view our Warranty statement here
How do I clean and care for Ziptrak® blinds?
- Hose or wipe down mesh PVC blinds with mild soapy water – avoid abrasive cleaners.
- For clear PVC, rinse gently and use a soft cloth to avoid scratching.
- Always let blinds dry before rolling them up to prevent mould.
