The challenge
Flying your Tiger Moth across the country for air shows would be quite an experience. In between flights, keeping her in excellent condition is key and often there isn’t a hangar for protection. Even when parked in the hangar, dust can make extra work for the pilot.
The owner of this classic aircraft contacted Douglas because he wanted a custom solution that kept her protected while keeping her classic look and style.
The client wanted the cover labelled with the registration number to keep it clearly identified and customised to his aeroplane.
The Douglas innovative solution
Our fabrication manager did a site visit and conducted a full measure of the plane and discussed the needs with the client. Back at the workshop he designed the customised pattern to fit the unique shape of the Tiger Moth.
The canvas was selected for its quality, durability and ability to protect in all weather. Matt, our senior fabricator, cut and sewed the cover and then custom cut the registration number in a strong type-face from a contrasting canvas to clearly identify and personalise the cover.
It was a pleasure to do this custom canvas work on such an iconic piece of aviation. Now we’ve got a template ready for our next Tiger Moth so we look forward to seeing more of these in the future.
