ELEGANT RURAL SHADE WITH OUTDOOR SCREENS
THE ADDITION OF CUSTOM MESH SCREENS TO THE PERGOLA OF THIS RURAL HOME BROUGHT A NEW LEVEL OF COMFORT TO THE SPACE.
THE PROJECT
Blessed with a picture-perfect rural Hawke’s Bay setting and the weather challenges that come with it, the McBeths were looking for added protection that allowed them to use their generous entertaining space regardless of sun or wind.
They were after a shade solution for the western side of the deck, a part of the property that experienced a low setting sun in summer and a prevailing western wind.
While privacy was not a factor, one of the important aspects of their requirements was to not compromise the rural outlook that they enjoyed from the deck. They also needed something that would provide sunshade, UV and heat reduction, as well as wind protection from those westerlies.
To ensure the space felt good and was flexible, the ability to open it right up and let the outdoors in was key.
The existing pergola provided the solid framework, so any solution needed to work within the dimensions and compliment the aesthetics of their modern-meets-rural homestead.
THE DOUGLAS INNOVATION SOLUTION
The McBeths were interested in the simplicity and quality of the Ziptrak® track guided outdoor blind system.
One of the attractions of the Ziptrak® roll up screens is the calibre of the componentry, making the screens effortless to slide up and down whenever desired.
For the McBeths we recommended a high-performance mesh outdoor screen fabric for powerful UV protection and shade, in black to match the décor of the existing pergola. Even in the colour black these textiles enable anyone on the deck to still enjoy that relaxing rural view.
With black powder-coating to tie it all together, the result was a near seamless fit with the home’s existing design.
The design and installation team at Douglas in Hastings worked hard to produce a result that the client would enjoy and last them through many years of celebrations and downtime on the deck.
When the outdoor screens are up, the McBeths can still let that rural view in completely uninterrupted. Then, with the screens down, they and their friends can enjoy added protection and warmth in the cooler months, and UV rated shade in the heat of summer.
