RETRACTABLE PERGOLA ROOF BRINGS VERSATILITY TO NAPIER HILL VILLA
Set amongst the trees and birdsong, our client’s only flat outdoor area needed to be flexible.
THE PROJECT
At Douglas Innovation, we recently had the privilege of working with a valued customer to create a gorgeous outdoor living space. The client, who owns a classic villa on Napier Hill, was after a versatile solution that would provide all-weather protection from the elements while maximizing the use of their only flat outdoor area.
The 8.6m wide upper-level deck required some creative thinking to get the most from the space.
THE DOUGLAS INNOVATION SOLUTION
Various shade and shelter options were considered by the client, which needed to be 100% waterproof, fit the shape of the deck, and be viable to install to the rear of a hill property with only road access.
Recognizing the significance of this space to the homeowner, our team suggested the installation of our Oztech Retractable Roof system as a customisable, fully waterproof solution that could retract away when the sun was out.
The client agreed, deciding the investment in a high quality, customised permanent structure was worth it.
Custom colours were selected, with powder-coated aluminium and choice of canopy colour to tie in with the villa’s paintwork.
Our designer set to work on scoping the structural details – an 8.6m wide span would cover the complete width of the deck, with an angled side cut-out on the roof skin, to match the contour of the deck and ensure no space was left uncovered.
With a 3m canopy projection, the retractable roof was designed with an inbuilt guttering system to catch its own rainfall. Rainwater from the villa roof would still direct through its normal guttering channels.
Details were including to strengthen the structure from the under-side of the deck, to secure the integrity and safety of the deck and roof system.
Installation to the rear of the property required a crane from the roadside to lift the beams and posts over the house to the rear. All work was completed to WorkSafe requirements, including Working at Heights. The Douglas team also have a SiteWise Green accreditation for Health & Safety onsite.
Our team thoroughly enjoyed this install, even more so when client was just as delighted with the result.
With in-built LED lights, the Oztech offers an ambient space come nightfall. During the day it transforms the deck into an outdoor retreat, amongst the trees and native birds of Napier Hill.
