THE PROJECT
Our client loved her large 5x6m deck but the combination of it being north facing and the strong Hawke’s Bay sun meant you ‘bake like a potato’ when using it in the summer. She wanted the ability to have all-weather retractable shade protection to open up light to the living area in winter at the touch of a button.
One element our images don’t reveal is how deceptively large the patio is – almost 30sqm. This is a large area to cover when considering an outdoor shade system, so any chosen solution needed to be able to span the deck space effortlessly.
THE RIGHT PRODUCT DECISION
After receiving the initial enquiry for a louvre roof, the Douglas team immediately knew that an Oztech retractable roof would be the ideal solution in this case. We had recently installed this system for several other clients including the Malo Restaurant and Smith & Sheth courtyard in Havelock North and knew how it performed.
Unlike other retractable pergolas available in NZ, the Oztech provided the advantage of being a 100% waterproof roof system – providing complete shelter from rain as well as the sun.
Like a louvre roof, they are designed and installed complete with an in-built guttering system. Oztech retractable roofs can also resist over 100km per hour winds when closed, with the combination of architectural tension fabric and an aluminium pergola frame providing strength and lasting durability.
To be able to meet all expectations and cover the expansive space the Oztech was the perfect choice.
THE DOUGLAS INNOVATION SOLUTION
The Oztech retractable shade was installed complete with dimmable LED lighting for visibility and a delightful evening atmosphere.
Our client also loved that the colour range could ensure the tones on the aluminium pergola worked with the palette of her existing home. In this case the selection was a matte flint custom powdercoat colour.
Along with the high-performance textile canopy in metallic grey, the result is a strong and seamless enhancement of her existing living space.
Our client loves that she can now use the deck all year round and in all weather conditions. The addition of the Oztech roof system has made the deck one of her favourite areas of the house.
The expansive deck now enjoys fully retractable cover, allowing welcome respite from the summer sun, and inviting the sun into the lounge on Napier’s stunning winter days.
